Grace Games 2024: A Day of Fun, Friendship, and Fierce Competition

Grace Games 2024: A Day of Fun, Friendship, and Fierce Competition

Last Thursday, the Grace community came together to celebrate the annual Grace Games. It was a day filled with laughter, camaraderie, and some serious athletic competition.

The morning kicked off with a series of exciting station-based activities. Students from all year groups participated in a variety of challenges, including sack races, push-ups, skipping, and shot put. The friendly rivalry between the different houses added an extra layer of excitement to the proceedings.

The day’s highlight was undoubtedly the much-anticipated GSS teacher vs student football match. The students, brimming with youthful energy and skill, gave their all, but the experienced teachers proved too strong, securing a 4-1 victory. Despite the outcome, the match was thrilling to watch, filled with breathtaking goals and skilful manoeuvres.

Another crowd-pleaser was the parent-teacher-student relay race. Parents, teachers, and students formed teams and raced against each other, creating a memorable and heartwarming moment. Grace Games showcases the strong bond between the school community and highlights the importance of family involvement in sports.

Beyond the competitive spirit, the Grace Games also fostered a sense of unity and friendship among the students. The event provided an opportunity for students from different year groups to interact, make new friends, and create lasting memories. The day was a testament to the power of sports to bring people together and inspire positive values.

As the sun set on another successful Grace Games, we couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and gratitude. We would like to thank all the students, teachers, parents, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the event. We look forward to the next Grace Games and hope to continue this wonderful tradition for many years to come.

The GSS Student Council

The GSS Student Council

The GSS Student Council: A Path to Leadership, Service, and Growth

At Grace, we believe in nurturing students not just academically but holistically, preparing them to become leaders and responsible citizens. One of the most impactful ways we do this is through the GSS Student Council. Running for student council, voting for peers, and being elected are more than exciting moments for students—they are rich, hands-on lessons in leadership, responsibility, and service.

Leadership in Action

From the moment students decide to run for student council, they step into a world of leadership. Crafting campaign speeches, building coalitions of support, and working toward election victory all require courage, communication skills, and the ability to inspire others. Students who vote also experience the importance of civic engagement, learning that their voice and choice matter in shaping the school community.

For those elected, the student council provides an incredible opportunity to exercise leadership on a broader scale. They make decisions, organise events, and work collaboratively to address the needs of the student body. These experiences offer a glimpse into the complexities of leadership and governance, preparing students for future leadership roles in their personal and professional lives.

Learning to Serve

One of Grace’s core values is Service, and the GSS Student Council is a living embodiment of this principle. Being on the council teaches students how to serve their community. They learn to listen to their peers’ needs, act with empathy, and strive to make a positive difference in the school environment. This practice of service extends beyond the walls of the school, shaping the character of each student and encouraging them to carry these values into their larger communities.

Whether it’s organising fundraisers, planning school-wide initiatives, or addressing issues that affect their peers, student council members learn that leadership is about serving others. By participating in service-driven activities, they grow in humility, empathy, and responsibility, all of which are essential traits for success in life.

Building for the Future

In addition to the immediate benefits of serving on the GSS Student Council, students also gain skills that will serve them in the future. Colleges and universities highly value students who demonstrate leadership and community involvement, and having a role in student government is often a key component of a strong application. Being elected to a leadership position shows initiative, commitment, and the ability to work well with others—qualities that are highly sought after in higher education and beyond.

The soft skills students develop—such as teamwork, problem-solving, and public speaking—are essential for any career path they choose. The confidence they gain through these experiences will serve them well whether they pursue leadership roles in their careers or communities.

A Lifelong Impact

Ultimately, the GSS Student Council is more than just a school activity. It’s a platform for students to grow as individuals, learn to serve others, and become equipped for future leadership. It is a unique opportunity for students to embody Grace’s value of Service, learning not only how to lead but also how to care for and uplift their community.

By participating in the GSS Student Council, students don’t just enrich their school experience; they are investing in their future as compassionate leaders and engaged citizens of the world.

Holistic Education: Nurturing the Whole Child

Holistic Education: Nurturing the Whole Child

Holistic Education: Nurturing the Whole Child

In today’s fast-paced world, it’s easy to become overly focused on academic achievement. However, a truly effective education goes beyond test scores and grades. Holistic education recognises that each child is a unique individual with diverse needs and interests. It aims to nurture the whole child, encompassing their intellectual, emotional, social, and physical development.

Why is holistic education important?
  • Well-rounded development: Holistic education helps children develop a balanced personality by focusing on all aspects of their growth.
  • Improved academic performance: When students feel emotionally and socially supported, they are more likely to be motivated and engaged in learning.
  • Life skills development: Holistic education equips children with essential life skills such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, and communication.
  • Positive mindset: A holistic approach fosters a positive and growth-oriented mindset, helping children develop resilience and a love for learning.
Key components of holistic education:
  • Academic excellence: A strong foundation in core subjects is essential.
  • Emotional well-being: Addressing the emotional needs of students and providing support for mental health.
  • Social development: Fostering positive relationships with peers and teachers.
  • Physical health: Promoting physical activity and healthy lifestyle habits.
  • Character development: Cultivating values such as integrity, empathy, and respect.

At Grace International School, we believe in a holistic approach to education. We strive to create a nurturing environment where students can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. By focusing on the whole child, we are preparing them for a successful and fulfilling future.

Committed to Education

Committed to Education

Bangladesh has undergone a period of profound transformation, and the events of recent weeks have deeply impacted us all. We share the grief of those who have lost loved ones and stand with the Bangladeshi people as they navigate this challenging period.

As an institution committed to education and community, Grace International School recognises the significance of this pivotal moment in our nation’s journey. We understand the complexities of the situation and respect the diverse perspectives within our community. Our unwavering focus remains on providing a safe and nurturing environment for our students while supporting our staff and their families through these unprecedented times.

Grace International School plans to start the new academic year on 18 August 2024, a week later than originally planned. This decision has been made with the utmost care and consideration for the safety and well-being of our entire community. Please note that this date is subject to change depending on the evolving situation. We will continue to monitor developments closely and provide updates as needed.

Our dedicated teachers are eager to welcome students back to the classroom and provide a sense of normalcy amidst these challenging times. We believe education plays a vital role in fostering resilience and hope, and we are committed to fulfilling our mission of providing a nurturing learning environment for all.

The Importance of Reception

The Importance of Reception

Ensuring a Smooth Transition to Year 1: The Importance of Reception Year at Grace International School

At Grace, we understand that some curriculums, like those in the US, Europe, or the IB program, may not have a dedicated Reception Year. However, within the BNC framework, Reception Year plays a vital role in ensuring your child is fully prepared for the more structured learning environment of Year 1.

Why Reception Year Matters:

Reception Year at Grace (ages 4-5) goes beyond simply introducing the alphabet and basic math. It’s a year of playful learning that fosters the essential skills your child needs to thrive academically and socially. Here’s how:

  • Social & Emotional Development: Playing and interacting with peers empowers your child to build confidence, manage emotions, and navigate social situations.
  • Language & Communication: Through engaging activities, children develop strong listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills – the building blocks for future literacy.
  • Physical Development: Reception Year incorporates activities that enhance coordination, gross and fine motor skills, and healthy habits.
  • Early Math & Science: Through play and exploration, children develop problem-solving skills, a positive relationship with numbers, and an introductory understanding of the world around them.

Skipping Reception: A Potential Disadvantage:

Entering Year 1 without the foundation laid in Reception Year may place your child at a disadvantage. The curriculum becomes more structured, demanding skills honed in Reception, like literacy, social interaction, and emotional regulation. Skipping this critical stage can lead to difficulties in adapting and keeping pace with classmates.

Grace Ensures a Strong Start:

At Grace International School, our experienced and passionate Reception Year teachers create a nurturing environment where children can learn through play and exploration. We take pride in offering an engaging program that prepares your child not just for Year 1 but for a successful and fulfilling academic journey.

We encourage you to schedule a visit and witness firsthand the vibrant learning environment in our Reception Year. We also encourage you to consider enrolling your child at Grace in this important stage of life. As a valued partner, we’re here to answer any questions and ensure your child has the strongest possible foundation for their educational future.
